A Liquor Buyback Store Website — a renewal that starts with making the phone number tappable

A renewal proposal created for a specialist store that buys shochu, sake and Japanese whisky. The client asked for three things: higher search rankings, more enquiries, and proper smartphone support. We went through the existing site item by item and rebuilt the design starting from the reasons enquiries were not coming in.

What we found

• The phone number sat inside an image, so tapping it on a smartphone did not place a call
• There was no enquiry form — the only channels were a PDF application form and a fax number
• Buyback prices were plain text rather than a table, hard to scan and hard for search engines to read
• Phone hours are weekdays 10:00–17:00, leaving no way to reach the shop at weekends, when people deal with inheritance and clearing out a home

What we proposed

1. Keep the phone always within reach

The number is set as text, not an image, and a call button stays fixed at the bottom of the screen. Outside business hours the wording changes to invite a photo appraisal instead. The 24-hour role the fax used to play is now handled by a single photo.

2. Designed for visitors in their 50s to 70s

Body text at 18px or larger, generous line spacing, large tap targets, and no grey type. An appraisal request takes three fields.

3. Brand pages as the way in from search

Searches such as "Mori Izo buyback" or "Yamazaki buyback price" are what actually turn into enquiries. Each brand gets its own page carrying the price table, what changes the price, and recent purchases.

4. A page that works like an app (PWA)

Liquor prices move daily. Added to the home screen, the site opens to the latest price list with a single tap, and price updates can be pushed as notifications.

The year after launch

• Search optimisation (SEO) plus work to be quoted by AI answers (AEO and GEO)
• Monthly reporting on rankings and enquiry volume
• Prices, notices and campaigns editable by the shop itself
• Server and domain management, copy edits and fixes
